Ottawa, Canada. 19th May, 1897. Letter signed by Fred Toller (Comptroller) to ABNC stating that the Deputy Minister of Finance has been informed that ABNC will begin work in Ottawa around the 25th of (June?). Toller has been ordered to request that ABNC will be given the orders to produce "Dominion Notes Ones - 150,000 Sheets - $600,000 and Dominion Notes Twos - 50,000 Sheets - $400,000". Toller requests acknowledgement of receipt of the order and wants to know when and how many bundles of banknotes can be delivered and the time it takes to fill the present order. This order refers to the 1897, $1 (P-22) and $2 (P-24B) Dominion of Canada Issues printed by ABNC-Ottawa and dated 2nd July, 1897. Also included is a 3 by 7 inch piece of paper with 6 different original handwritten signatures of J.M.Courtney, (Minister of Finance) that were used as models for the signature on the 1897 Issue banknotes. Also included is the internal ABNC list of correspondence from the Dominion of Canada for a 1900 issue. Unique and historic archival record for this important ABNC banknote issue printed for the Dominion of Canada as well as the first notes produced by the ABNC-Canadian subsidiary in Ottawa.
