January 28, 1879. London, England. P-286. 5 Pounds. Specimen banknote with red "SPECIMEN" overprint in signature block. Serial number "26/D 14549". Small (Plate?) number "2" below vignette. Paperappears to be unwatermarked. There is one vertical fold down the midlle and the lower left corner has an extremely light bend at the corner, otherwise the note would be a crisp AU-Uncirculated. This was originally part of the ABNC banknote referencecollection. Unlisted as a specimen in the SCWPM. The note catalogs issued $1750 in good and $4000 in fine condition. It is unpriced in this format. Extremely rare and early (From a U.S. point of view) Bank of England note. Unique in archive.
