Alabama, 1927. $100 I/U Share Certificate, Black text with green border, Great Seal of United States at top center, above portrait of Hon. Ohio Bell. Red seal at bottom left corner. VF condition with some staining, and a hole at top margin. Alabama. $100 stock certificate. The certificate indicates that the company principal business was “…buying and selling real estate, hardware, farm products, fuel and other provisions…”. Organized in the years following World War I, the Ex-Soldiers Investment Industrial Company, Inc. was founded to provide returning American veterans with opportunities to invest in business ventures and industrial development projects during the postwar recovery period. Based in the 1920s spirit of veteran self-help and entrepreneurship, the company sought to channel the savings and bonds of former servicemen into manufacturing, construction, and small enterprise investments. The certificate is signed by D.B. Bell as president, whose name appears on most known issues. This certificate stands as a reminder of the economic optimism and civic-minded veteran initiatives that followed the Great War. Rare African-American Share Certificate.
