Haiti... 1881. 1st Class Medal commemorating the Exposition Nationale d'Haiti. Test marks on rim, a few rim nicks, suspension loop missing, otherwise Fine-VF condition. Features a bust of Lysius Salomon on obverse, olive branches with cornucopia pair on reverse. Lysius Salomon (June 30, 1815 Ð October 19, 1888) was the President of Haiti from 1879 to 1888. Salomon is best remembered for instituting Haiti's first postal system and for his lively enthusiasm for Haiti's modernization. his coin appears to have a large amount of nickel used in its manufacture. A similar example brought $400 in a DNW Auction Company sale in England.
