Louisiana and Mississippi, 1866. $312.93 Issued 8% Promissory Note, Handwritten on lined paper, appears to mention the exchange of cotton at bottom. 8 Adhesive revenue stamps in orange are on back, with Garrard & Craig handstamps. Fine condition with faint staining at top right, and some toning from adhesive stamps. Garrard & Craig (also known as Garrard, Craig & Co.) was a cotton firm in New Orleans. Evidently, Wilbur Leger, the signer of the note had gotten and advance from Garrad, Craig & Company for his cotton shipment.
