Germany, 1916–1919. Group of 10 municipal Notgeld notes, issued during the later First World War and immediate postwar period to alleviate persistent shortages of official coinage; Weiden (Bavaria), three Gutscheine, Fünfzig Pfennig, dated 1916, 1917 and 1918, issued by the Stadtgemeinde Weiden, featuring ornate engraved designs, 2 with town views and matching reverses; Witten (Westphalia), two small-format Gutscheine, 1 Pfennig and 2 Pfennig, dated November 1919, plainly printed emergency issues authorized by the municipal Magistrat; Wiesbaden (Hesse), Gutschein über Fünfundzwanzig Pfennig, dated September 1919, with decorative civic motif and official stamping; Zweibrücken (Palatinate), Gutschein über Fünfzig Pfennig, dated 20 February 1917, issued by the city administration with redemption text on reverse; Cottbus (Brandenburg), four higher-denomination Gutscheine, 5, 10, 20, and 50 Mark, dated 1918–1919, bold multi-color designs reflecting inflationary pressures at the close of the war. All are genuine municipal emergency issues rather than later souvenir Notgeld; condition ranges from VF to Uncirculated condition or better.
