Honolulu, Sandwich Islands, 1858. $2000 Issued First Exchange, Without S/N, Black print with spectacular whaling vignette at top center, Ornate "Thomas Spencer, Honolulu, Sandwich Islands" border and design at left, Counterfoil attached at bottom. This First Exchange was issued to Captain William Watson for the sum of $2000 "for value received in necessary supplies furnished at this port for the Bark Winslow," a shipping vessel under Master Watson's command. VF-XF condition especially for its age. Bark Winslow was in commission for 54 years, according to Old Dartmouth Historical Sketches. Thomas Spencer was a whaling captain who landed in Hawaii (then the Sandwich Islands), and became a notable businessman and member of society. Unique and rare piece of shipping and whaling history.
