1930-1950's. Specimen. Specimen certificate for the "Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Washington, D.C." Patriotic eagle on top left. Text states "Located at i..in the Island of.. including its branches, is an insured bank under the permanent plan for the insurance of deposits by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation with maximum insurance of $5,000 for each depositor, as provided by Act of Congress that." The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is a United States government corporation created by the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933. Due to the vast number of bank failures in the Great Depression, the United States Congress was spurred into creating an institution which would guarantee banks and protect depositors. What makes this more interesting is the reference to "the Island of." This is possibly either a Hawaiian or Puerto Rico related Federal Banking certificate. Red specimen overprint and POC.
