Washington D.C., December 25, 1931, Herbert Hoover and First Lady, Lou Henry Hoover, autographs on etching of view from the South Portico of the White House, Etching done by Joseph C Claghorn. Etching matted and framed. Hoover (1874-1964), a Republican, was the 3rd U.S. Commerce Secretary (1921-1928) and was the 31st President of the U.S.(1929-1933). Hoover is responsible for many different programs that he implemented to try and restart the economy after the crash in 1929. However due to continuing economic decline Hoover lost reelection in 1933 to F.D.R. Hoover is currently the president with the longest retirement period at over 31 years.
