Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation, $500, Pick# 179f, Issued Banknote, portrait of Sir Thomas Jackson at right, watermark a woman's head, back with the bank's Hong Kong headquarters building. S/N L450965. PMG graded Choice Very Fine 35. Printer: BWC. Sir Thomas Jackson (1841-1915) served as HSBC's Chief Manager for nearly three decades; the headquarters building depicted on the reverse, designed by Palmer & Turner and completed in 1935, was at the time the tallest building between Cairo and San Francisco. This $500 denomination is comparatively scarce at auction relative to lower values in the series.
