Howell Works, NJ. Lot of 2 Notes, Includes 6 1/4 cents & $1, 1861, Wait 829 & 833, R-6. Two scrip notes, printed in black on one side. The Howell Works Co. had its origin in an establishment called The Monmouth Furnace, in Howell, Monmouth County, NJ(now Allaire). The Howell Works issued both paper scrip and metal tokens in the 1800s. The 6 1/4 c scrip(Wait 829) has a view of the works as a central vignette and a small portrait vignette of Franklin at the left. The $1 scrip (Wait 833) has a view of the works as a central vignette, and a portrait vignette of Franklin at the right. The $1 note is an unissued remainder. The 6 1/4c note may have been partially issued, but the number, date, and signature have been obscured to make it appear unissued, XF-AU, Printed by RWH&C.
