Illinois, 1894-1924. Lot of 2, I/U Stock Certificates, Includes: 1894, Electric Boat Co., 100 Shares Capital Stock, S/N 7 and 1924, Drekolias-Anythistos Shipbuilding Co., 25 Shares Capital Stock, S/N 232. Certificates range from Fine to XF condition. (2). The Electric Boat Company was initially linked to entrepreneurial interests in Chicago, drawing on the city’s role as a hub of industrial innovation and financial backing. Early promotional materials emphasized the promise of quiet, efficient, and smokeless watercraft for both commercial and leisure purposes. This reflected a national and even international interest in replacing or supplementing steam power with electric propulsion in ferries, launches, and pleasure craft. The Illinois corporation of 1894 thus represents one of the earlier ventures experimenting with electric propulsion before the better-known Electric Boat Company of submarine fame.
