William Rockefeller (1841–1922) was an American financier, industrialist, and co-founder of the Standard Oil Company alongside his brother John D. Rockefeller. By 1912 he had become one of the most powerful figures in American business, serving as president of the National City Bank of New York and holding major interests in railroads, copper, steel, and insurance. Often working behind the scenes, William played a central role in expanding Standard Oil’s financial network and was closely associated with influential Wall Street circles. His career made him one of the wealthiest men of the Gilded Age and an enduring figure in U.S. financial history.
