Russia. Lot of 6 pieces, includes a pair of 1916, Short Term War Loan bond certificates for 1000 Roubles each, with 5.5% interest, Nos. 147273-147274. Included is a December 1916 letter presenting these two bonds as a Christmas gift to two individuals from their uncle in Houston, TX named "Bob". Also included an English translation printed in color in a similar format to the bond and its coupons. These bonds floated by the tottering Czarist government during the First World War, entitling the bearer to 5.5% per year until redemption in 1926. In 1918, after the Revolution, the new Communist government repudiated all state obligations issued during the Czarist regime. The debt was eventually settled in 1986 but only in part. Very Fine. (6)
