Washington, December 4, 1859, Hand written and signed 3 page letter in Spinner's hand. Spinner discusses an important petition before the House and that “…. No party has a clear majority… “; “I hope we should be able to elect Grow or Sherman, probably the latter for Speaker... “; and then offers his view on politicians “Such a motley crew of Hungry Wolves, made up of all the stripes in politics has never been seen before, like Egyptian frogs they leap into bread troughs... “; He ends the letter discussing the rift between the North and South “The (Brown Raid) and his execution caused intense excitement - To hear Southern members talk, one would not think it possible that the Union could last one night - But the Dissolution dodge is about played out, will no longer frighten anybody.. “, the letter is in VF to XF condition with the usual file folds and a couple of small spots of foxing, Signed with the distinctive Spinner signature.
