Illinois, 1865. Inaugural Banquet of the New Hall of the Board of Trade of the City of Chicago menu printed on a silk material, dated August 21st, 1865. Approximately 4.5 x 11.5 inches. At top is an illustration of the Board of Trade in Chicago, although this building was destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The menu includes courses such as Cold Dishes, Relishes, Pastry, Confectionary, with corresponding dishes listed beneath. In Fine condition considering its age, with two dime-sized stains at left, and a watermark along the right side. Some holes are also present where this item was folded previously. Very rare and interesting piece of Chicago history, especially considering it pre-dates the Great Chicago Fire as well as the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893, which took place in Chicago.
