Iceland, 1904, Islands Banki, Unique presentation set prepared for Mr. P.O.A. Andersen, Permanent Secretary of the Danish Treasury 1899-1929. 8 color trial specimens (4 Uniface fronts and 4 backs), in blue-grey, orange and light blue: 5 Kroner color trial of face in blue-grey, orange, and pale blue. 10 Kroner color trial of face in blue-grey, orange, and pale blue. 50 Kroner color trial of face in blue-grey, orange, and pale blue. 100 Kroner color trial of face in blue-grey, orange, and pale blue. Each note has serial 0000 serial numbers; the 50 and 100 with five digits, the 5 and 10 with six digits. In 1904 Iceland gained home rule; accordingly the note issue was invested in the Islands Banki (Bank of Iceland) and these beautiful notes were ordered from Europe's finest banknote printer, Giesecke & Devrient. The printer prepared several sets of trials in various colors. In issued form the 5 Kroner of this series occasionally turns up. The 10 Kroner is extremely rare issued. Of the 50 Kroner (which was not reprinted in 1920 with the new date), one issued note is believed to have been known, this discovered in Scotland some years ago. Of the 100 Kroner, the serial #1 is believed to be in the Central Bank of Iceland. No other issued examples of the 50 and 100 are believed to exist. A unique and truly beautiful set, and an exceptionally rare and important offering. The notes lovely and classics on the world banknote scene and missing from almost every advanced collection. G&D.
