Jack Johnson signed letter on blue paper in pencil reads “To My Little Pal Raymond Helsal From Former Champ Jack Johnson, VF condition ALS. Johnson (1878-1946) became the first African American world heavy-weight boxing champion when he beat Canadian Tommy Burns on Boxing Day 1908 in Sydney, Australia in 14 rounds. Johnson was inducted into both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame. His boxing record was 80 Wins 45 by KO 13 Losses 12 Draws 14 No Contests. He died at the age of 68 in an automobile accident after racing angrily from a diner which refused to serve him.
