The auction will take place in our new office at 1580 Lemoine Ave., Suite 7, Fort Lee, NJ 07024
ND (ca.1850-60's). From an illustration by John E. Meyers. Scene of men by tent with river, city and steamboats in background. 9 x 7 inches. XF condition. Printed on thin heavy stock white paper. Evidently a book plate or from a series of engravings. James Smillie (1807-1885), a Scottish engraver, emigrated to New York in 1829, was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1851, did much, with his brother William Cumming (1813-1908), to develop the engraving of bank-notes, and was an excellent landscape-engraver. Scarce non banknote related Smillie engraving.
