Air Mail, Newspaper photograph of Jimmy Doolittle pasted to left aside of cover with circular hand stamp cachet on left with Doolittle's signature vertically in it. James Harold Doolittle was an American General and aviation pioneer. Doolittle served as a flying instructor in World War I, and later became lieutenant general during World War II, where he also earned the Medal of Honor for his leadership and command of the Doolittle Raid. He was the first American to be awarded both the Medal of Honor and the Medal of Freedom. Doolittle helped create the Air Force Association and served as its first president, and was the last chairman of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) before it was superseded by NASA. Jimmy Doolittle is remembered to this day in both the National Aviation Hall of Fame as well as the International Air & Space Hall of Fame in San Diego.
