New Orleans, LA. Nov. 16, 1861. New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern Railroad Company Obsolete Scrip Note, Two Dollars. Unlisted railroad issue. Issued railroad company scrip note payable to bearer, denominated Two Dollars, printed in black ink on thin paper with ornate borders and a central vignette depicting a steam locomotive pulling passenger cars, with additional decorative side panels and obligation text stating the note is receivable in payment of dues to the company. The note bears manuscript signatures of company officers and red serial number "747"; the reverse is blank, as issued. Produced during the Civil War period to facilitate transactions amid shortages of circulating currency. The condition ranges from Fine to Choice Fine condition, with folds, edge wear, and age toning consistent with circulation. Douglas Eng., N.Orleans.
