Baton Rouge, LA. October 9, 1862. Parish of East Baton Rouge Fractional Currency Note, One Dollar. Unlisted parish issue. Issued parish currency note payable to bearer at the Parish Treasurer’s Office and receivable for all dues to the Parish of East Baton Rouge, with text stating the note is payable on demand or fundable in parish bonds when demanded in sums of twenty dollars. Printed in black ink on thin paper with ornate typographic borders, vertical “ONE DOLLAR” denomination panels, and prominent parish title; handwritten serial number 286 at upper right with manuscript signatures for the Treasurer and Parish President at the lower margin. The reverse is blank with faint ink show-through, as issued. The condition ranges from Choice Fine to VF condition or better, with folds and edge wear consistent with circulation. Printer not indicated.
