Jersey City, NJ. Lot of 5 Notes, Includes 5 cents & 10 cents, 1862, Wait 873, 876, & 877, R-5 and R-1. Five issued pieces. M.B.Forman issued scrip, redeemable at the City Bank, during the Civil War. Wait lists the Forman notes incorrectly, under City Bank. This 5c note(Wait 873) is printed in green on one side. It has a NJ State Arms vignette at the left. The other four notes in this lot were issued by Jersey City. During the Civil War, Jersey City issued scrip to help alleviate the coin shortage. All four notes are printed in black on the front, with red serial numbers, and the back has an elaborate denomination display in green. The two 5c notes(Wait 876) have an oval portrait of Jefferson as the central vignette. The two 10c notes(Wait 877) has an oval portrait of Venus and Eros as the central vignette. (5)
