Massachusetts, September 22 and September 29, 1866. Lot of 2 original handwritten letters addressed to President Andrew Johnson concerning federal appointments in Greenfield, Massachusetts, including recommendations for Edmund W. Russell as Collector of Internal Revenue and Capt. George Pierce Jr. as Deputy Postmaster. Both letters originate from citizens of Franklin County and advocate for candidates based on loyalty, service, and qualifications following the Civil War. Each is signed by Samuel O. Lamb and John T. Swift, along with numerous additional endorsers (approximately 10 to 20 signatures per document). Conditions range from VF to XF overall, with typical folds, light toning, and minor handling. (2).
