Quincy, Massachusetts, 1856. 2 Shares I/U Capital Stock Certificate, S/N 91, Black text with black border. VF condition, with some slight discoloration along fold lines. Signed by Gideon French Thayer as President. He was a famous as a teacher and founder of Chauncy-Hall School in Boston, Massachusetts, and also was President of Prescott Insurance Company (originally Quincy F&M Insurance Co.). In 1831 he moved from Milton to Quincy, Massachusetts. There he was influential in establishing the first high school (1852) and in organizing a lyceum for the encouragement of cultural interests in the community. In 1848 he was one of the editors of the Massachusetts Teacher; and from July 1851 to April 1852 he edited the Quincy Patriot, a weekly journal devoted to the arts and sciences and was one of the organizers of the Boston public library. On January 1, 1856, he became president of the Quincy Fire and Marine Insurance Company.
