Baltimore, Maryland, ND (1810s-20s). $10, MD75G88P, Proof banknote, Black on India paper with Benjamin Franklin facing left flanked by scientific apparatus, quill pens, scrolls and books at top center, S/N None pp C, 'Specimen' and 'Philadelphia' printed at bottom, PMG graded About Uncirculated 55 with comment "Annotations." Murray, Draper, Fairman & Co. Imprint. The Silver City Collection was discovered in 2010 in the basement of an old bank building. The 200+ notes, almost all different, were all proofs by RWH & predecessor companies dating between 1810 and 1843 with none later. Evidently it was a forgotten archives of RW&H, Boston that was overlooked and abandoned. These 200+ notes were the only survivors out of close to 5000 notes or more that were found since the balance were dumped by workers at the bank and lost to a land fill. Please see our previous 2011 Silver City - Round Mountain auction to view the amazing and mostly unknown Obsolete notes that were part of this find. (ex-Silver City Collection). This is the only example of this note listed in the PMG census of obsolete banknotes. We offered it originally in our 2011 auction.
