Ann Arbor, Michigan, 1854. $1 and $5 Issued Obsolete Banknote Pair, Both have black print with multiple vignettes of groups of figures including arms of Michigan at right, S/Ns 1407 pp B and 1675 pp A. Notes are in VF to Choice VF condition. DW&Co. Issued in 1854, this $1 and $5 pair comes from the long-established Bank of Washtenaw in Ann Arbor during a period of steady mid-19th-century commercial growth. By this time the bank was serving a mature regional economy, supporting trade, transportation links, and expanding agricultural interests throughout Washtenaw County. Notes from this era illustrate the bank’s role in local commerce following Michigan’s early frontier decades and its transition into a more stable financial landscape. (2).
