Ann Arbor, Michigan, 1854. $1 Issued Obsolete Banknote Pair, Black print with multiple vignettes of groups of figures including arms of Michigan at right, S/Ns 4172 pp C and 7551 pp C. Notes are in Choice VF to XF condition. DW&Co. By 1854 the Bank of Washtenaw was a well-established Ann Arbor institution serving a growing regional commercial center. Notes from this period reflect Michigan’s transition from its volatile early banking years into a more stable mid-19th-century economy, with local banks supporting trade, transportation, and expanding agricultural interests throughout Washtenaw County.
