New York, NY, 1889, 5 Shares, I/UC, Black text, no vignette, Offices located in Jersey City, NJ, Signed by Brock as president. Issued to William J. Carter. XF condition. The Manhattan Bridge Building Company was chartered in 1871 to build the Poughkeepsie Railroad, but its plans were derailed due to the panic of 1873 and the project was postponed for 13 years. The Bridge was started in 1886 and was completed in late December, 1888 and opened on January 1st, 1889. Andrew Carnegie was involved in the project and helped to see the bridge built. The bridge was over one mile in length the structure was lauded as an engineering masterpiece of its day. The bridge featured a cantilever design and was constructed entirely of steel save for its concrete supports. Rare Railroad related company and historic stock certificate.
