William d'Alton Mann (September 27, 1839 _ May 17, 1920) was an American Civil War soldier, businessman, and newspaper and magazine publisher. Mann was known as "the man who robbed robber barons". He also wrote a tabloid called "Town Topics" and would report on the scandalous activities of the upper call who were all too willing to pay to keep their names out of Mann's magazine. Among those who paid to keep Mann quit was JP Morgan, William K. Vanderbilt, William C. Whitney and Thomas Fortune Ryan.
