$5. ca. 1830's or 40's. Perkins invented a bank note printing process that allowed him to drop movable elements containing bank titles and locations into printing plates. In this example the bank title and city have been cut out. The left end panel usually featured the state. The right signature block has a manuscript notation that states "One Cent pr. (per) bill. with Chalk(?) Lathe work 2 Cents." The additional one cent charge was probably for illustrations, such as the one in the left end panel. VF-EF.
