Jersey City, NJ. Lot of 3 Notes, Includes $3, Wait 958, R-5, bears the title of The Mechanics and Traders Bank, which was incorporated in 1853. This note is altered from a $3.00 Mechanics & Traders Bank of Georgetown, D.C.(Haxby DC 120 G-6). That institution was a fraudulent and possibly non-existent bank. The other two notes are issued by the second Jersey Bank, which incorporated in 1818 and closed in 1826. Both of these notes were payable at the Ontario Bank of New York. VG to XF. (3)
