San Antonio, Texas, ND (1870s). 5.5 x 4 inch advertising card for the Menger Hotel, Black text with black border, Menger Hotel building is illustrated at center, with Mrs. W. A. Menger listed as the Proprietress. The Menger Hotel is a historic hotel located in downtown San Antonio, Texas, USA. It is located where the Battle of the Alamo happened. William and Mary Menger opened the Menger hotel in 1859 in what is now San Antonio's Alamo Plaza Historic District, which includes the Alamo Mission. The plans for the hotel arose through the popularity of William Menger's brewery. The Mengers sold the property in 1881 to the Kampmann family. The Menger Hotel has been recognized by the state of Texas and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It is a member of Historic Hotels of America, an official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Menger Hotel is currently owned by Galveston-based 1859 Historic Hotels, Inc.
