U.S. 1870's. 4 pages of early National Banknote Company vignettes used on various banknotes, checks, drafts, stamps, stock certificates, documents and security printed items. Close to 85 proof vignettes are present. Topics include railroads, allegorical figures, sailors, Queen Victoria, slave playing banjo, agriculture, map of early NYC transit system and a considerable number of medallions, lathe work engravings, numerals, denomination counters and compound proof sheets with multiple vignettes. High lights include 2 different denomination counters for the U.S.Treasury Department for $3 and $500; stamp like counters for 5 cents; a vignette of Queen Victoria that looks like it may have been used on early British Commonwealth and Canadian stamps; numerous medallions used on obsolete banknotes with different bank names and other interesting items. Condition ranges from VG to XF condition with archival notations in ink on a considerable number of the vignettes. The plate numbers listed on the vignettes or written close to the vignettes are from a different numbering system that range from 23000 to the 49000. Another rare group of proof vignettes. NBNC.
