U.S. 1870's. 6 pages of early National Banknote Company vignettes used on various banknotes, checks, drafts, stamps, stock certificates, documents and security printed items. 58 proof vignettes are present. Most of the items present are for counterfeit protection and include underprints and borders, corners and a few medallion like items. A considerable number of are compound proof sheets with multiple vignettes. High lights include a $5 corner essay vignette for an early U.S. National Currency Note and miscellaneous ornate counterfeit protectors for obsolete banknotes are present and include ones from Thomaston Bank $50 and $100; Commercial Bank of Memphis, Tennessee $10; State Bank of Iowa, Dubuque Branch $3; State Bank of Iowa, Muscatine Branch $2 and $3; Market Bank, Boston $2 and others. Condition ranges from VG to XF condition with archival notations in ink on a considerable number of the vignettes. There are only location numbers written on the sheets, with no individual plate numbers. Another rare group of proof vignettes. NBNC.
