Portsmouth, New Hampshire, 18xx (ca.1830's), Rockingham Bank. $5, Plate B, NH-295-Unknown Design (NH296UNL5aP pp A, Unlisted in census, Proof banknote, black on india paper on thin white card with 3 large excess margins on top and sides, Screaming eagle on tree branch with train passing in distance and canal boats in canal in middle top, topless allegorical women sitting on ornate numeral 5 with small portrait of Washington on patriotic shield next to a partially nude woman, and a cherub sitting on flowery V flanking eagle, underprint FIVE in middle, Pencil production department notation "Right Side if 1/4 in Shorten", Also includes the matching eagle vignette mounted on a large manila file folds from the ABNC Archives with the plate # V-40210 on the bottom of the india paper and also on the top of the manila card, PMG graded Gem Uncirculated Condition 65 EPQ, Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Co. Boston imprint. Extremely attractive note with only 2 examples found in the Silver City Collection. This note was offered in our Silver City Collection, Part 2 in our November 2011 Auction. It has not been offered since then.
