New York, NY. 1934. Uncut, ungummed, and imperforate sheet consisting of 25 examples of the 3 Cents blue, Byrd Antarctic Expedition souvenir sheet of 6 stamps each. The paper exhibits light, even toning from storage, but the sheet remains otherwise well preserved and would be considered Uncirculated with only minimal handling evident. An impressive and highly collectible Farley issue imperforate and ungummed full sheet of the 3¢ Byrd Antarctic Expedition stamp souvenir sheets, printed in Washington, D.C., and distributed in New York, New York, February 1934. Produced under the authority of Postmaster General James A. Farley and distributed privately outside normal postal channels, the sheet lacks both perforations and gum as issued. The complete original layout is intact, showing broad margins, full selvage, and repeated inscriptions reading “Under Authority of James A. Farley, Postmaster General,” together with plate numbers and imprint information at the base of each pane. Printed on the distinctive paper associated with Farley special printings, this striking sheet is among the most important U.S. souvenir sheet issues of the 1930s, valued for its dramatic polar exploration theme, impressive scale, and direct association with Farley’s controversial special printings.
