New York, 1879. $10,000 Specimen Special Deposit Certificate to the New York Clearing House payable in Gold. Black print with green underprint, Allegorical female Liberty with U.S. Arms at center, counterfoil at left, blue undertint on back with endorsement space. Archival date on bottom in black handwriting: October 28th, 1879. 0000 S/Ns in red, POCs, "Payable in United States Gold Coin" overprinted vertically in red at center, and a purple specimen overprint near bottom right. Danforth, Wright & Co., imprint (Evidently this is a pre-1860 design used at a later date). Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson imprint on back. Appears CU but there are light vertical folds between the note and the counterfoil on the left as well as 2 very light archival handling folds on the right margin. Rare, stunning and missing from most advanced collections. DF&C (ABNC). This was meant for internal bank purposes and not for public circulation.
