Hudson, New York, 1817. $1 Issued Obsolete Banknote, Black print with Bald Eagle at top center, S/N 5968, Choice Fine to VF condition, Printed by L. Lemet. Issued in 1817 by the Bank of Hudson in Columbia County, this note represents one of New York’s early post–War of 1812 banking institutions serving a growing Hudson River commercial center. Founded during a period of expanding regional trade, small manufacturing, and river transport, the bank’s early issues are scarcer survivors from the formative decades of New York’s private banking system.
