Derby, New York....., Lot of 2 notes, 1808. $10 Issued Obsolete Banknote Pair, Black print with vignette at of woman at center, S/Ns 492 pp A and 636 pp A, Both notes are in Fine to VF+ condition. Issued in 1808 by the Derby Fishing Co. of New York, this early private-company pair represents one of the earliest forms of circulating corporate scrip used before New York’s formal banking system matured. Firms like the Derby Fishing Co. issued notes to support trade and maritime commerce during the restrictive Embargo Act years, making surviving examples from this pre–War of 1812 period notably scarce.
