U.S. ca.1860-1870's. 2 pages back to back of early National Banknote Company vignettes used on various banknotes, checks, drafts, stamps, stock certificates, documents and security printed items. Over 30 proof vignettes. Topics include allegorical figures, portraits of Notable men and numerous other interesting items. High lights include portraits of General Robert E.Lee; Hon.S.P.Chase, possibly used on bond or banknote; William Seward; Dr.Benjamin Brandreth from patent medicine fame; Cornelius Vanderbilt; Major General Burnside; young women and different country and states coats of arms and other vignettes. There is one vignette that may appeal to the philatelic community that may be an essay portrait that deserves further inspection. Condition ranges from VG to VF condition with archival notations in ink on a considerable number of the vignettes. The plate numbers listed on the vignettes or written close to the vignettes range from # 49546 to 49643. A rare group of proof vignettes. NBNC.
