Iran (Persia was the name used until 1935). ND (Pre 1935). A set of four intaglio printed proof denomination counter vignettes, printed on india paper in black or green, as used on the 1932-1934 issues of the National Bank of Persia. Established in 1927 under German management, and with Kurt Lindenblatt as its governor, it was to be the vehicle for Germany’s economic expansion into Persia. By World War II, Reza Shah’s Iran and Hitler’s Germany had developed close commercial ties. But this was a relationship that came to an abrupt end with the Allied invasion of Iran in 1941. Thereafter, the Bank came to be known by its Persian name – the Bank Melli-e Iran – which became the country’s Central Bank until 1960 and continues as a commercial bank to this day. The first piece included is a "10" as used on the 10 Rials, AH1311, P-19, die # 69213; the second is a "50" as used on the 50 Rials, AH1311, P-21, die # 69386; third is a "500" as used on the 500 Rials, AH1311, P-23, die # 69366; and the fourth is a pair of different "1000"''s as used on the 1000 Rials (different designs in the different corners), AH1313, P-30, die # 71431. Each of the numeral figures on the four pieces is enclosed in a unique and elaborate guilloche, with "National Bank of Persia" indicated. ABNC. Extremely rare in this form, with the original bank name. All are in AU to uncirculated condition except for the 10 Rials proof which is missing small pieces from the lower right and upper left corners. Extremely rare Iran banknote production items. (4)
