1860's. Proof. Famous gold coin vignette used on ther back of all "National Gold Bank" banknotes. This proof which is printed on india paper is mounted on a manila envelope and has been cut to shape with a small white border. There is a small chip out at the upper right corner area and the envelope is falling apart. In red on top is written "(G)overnment Die" and the bottom has written in pencil "all blue" . This envelope came from the vignette files and show quite a bit of use. It appears that at one time it may have been filled with a group of these proofs, but the mounted proof is the only one in this archive. Brownish-red or plum color. Appears XF-AU except for chip in margin. Rare. NBN.
