New York, 1817. Typed and handwritten document confirming a $14.78 payment from Peter Allaire, "being the balance on One Lot situate on Harrison street included in the Assessment for opening Canal-street, confirmed the 20th day of August 1810." The document has a handwritten calculation, adding the principal payment, plus $5.62 interest, for a final total of $20.40 rendered. Back of document also has handwritten notes, stating that the piece is a "receipt for the Harrison Street House." Harrison Street in New York City is the location of brick, Federal-style buildings, constructed from the 1800s to the 1820s. This item likely relates to the purchase of one of these lots, now a historic section of Tribeca. (John E. Herzog Collection)
