New York, 1849-58. United States Navy Yard Lot of 19 I/U Payment Checks made out to various soldiers. The United States Navy Yard, now known as the Brooklyn Navy Yard, was established in 1801. Pieces are in VF-XF condition. (19). Sold "AS IS" no returns accepted. On 19 February 1862, the Union Navy’s first ironclad, USS Monitor, arrived at New York Navy Yard. Although it was built at Continental Iron Works in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, it was completed, outfitted, armed, crewed, and commissioned at the New York Navy Yard, located in Brooklyn.
