Massachusetts...., Connecticut, and Rhode Island, 1838-53. Lot of 2 Certificates, Includes: New York, Providence and Boston Rail Road Co., 20 Shares I/C Stock Certificate, S/N 621, 1838; and, Grand Junction Rail Road and Depot Co., $1000 I/U 6% Coupon Bond, S/N 103, 1853. VF to XF condition. The New York, Providence and Boston Railroad Company (NYP&B) and the Grand Junction Railroad and Depot Company were interconnected through their roles in the New England rail network. The NYP&B, known as the "Stonington Line," connected Providence and Boston, serving as a major passenger and freight route. The Grand Junction Railroad, a short-line railway in Boston, linked various major railroads to the city's port and industrial areas, facilitating freight transfers. Their relationship was operational, with the Grand Junction enabling the NYP&B to access Boston’s markets and resources through infrastructure and interchange agreements, reflecting the integrated nature of 19th-century rail systems.
