New York, September 28th, 1863. NY State Militia, 51st Regiment, 24th Brigade and 6th Division, membership certificate as a private in the "A" Company and is entitled to the privileges as a member of the militia. The 51st Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry (or Shepard Rifles) was an infantry regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War. They were also in the Campaign from the Rapidan to the James, May 3-June 15; Battle of the Wilderness, May 5–7; Spotsylvania, May 8–12; Spotsylvania Court House, May 12–21; Assault on the Salient, May 22; On line of the Pamunkey, May 26–28; Totopotomoy, May 28–31; Cold Harbor, June 1–12. They were also in the Appomattox Campaign from March 28-April 9; Assault on and fall of Petersburg, April 2, and Pursuit of Lee to Farmville April 3–9. Also included in the lot are two modern political postal cards and printed confederate flag. All mounted on black paper. VF to XF Condition. (3)
