The New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad (NYS&W), founded in 1881, initially focused on transporting anthracite coal across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Over time, it expanded into passenger and general freight services. Despite facing financial challenges, the railroad survived and was revitalized in the 1980s, shifting its focus to intermodal and freight transport. Today, it remains an important regional freight carrier.
