The Zanesville-Maysville Turnpike Road was located in Ohio. The road followed the general alignment of a historic pathway known as Zane's Trace, which was the first road built through Ohio, authorized by an act of Congress in 1796. Cities: The route connected Wheeling (now in West Virginia) and Zanesville, Ohio, and continued toward Maysville, Kentucky, passing through Ohio cities like Lancaster and Chillicothe. Modern Alignment: Portions of the turnpike's route later became known as the Aberdeen & Zanesville Turnpike, and the general path is paralleled by segments of modern U.S. Route 40. Ornate intaglio engraving by Doolittle, Ivy & Munson, Cincinnati.
