Various States...., Includes correspondence, technical articles, pamphlets, photographs, and schematics documenting the development and early use of oil-electric and diesel locomotive technology from 1923 to 1936. Includes 1929 and 1936 letters from Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co. to the president of the Morristown & Erie Railroad regarding oil-electric engines, with one enclosing a contemporary article on diesel engines; Real photos with railroad car on top with Specs on bottom, Publications and articles include Oil Engine Power (September 1925) with engine illustrations; Canadian Railway and Marine World (January 1926) on oil-electric locomotives; Railway Mechanical Engineer (February 1926); Locomotive Engineers Journal (September 1927) on the status of the oil-engine locomotive; Railway Age issues from 1927 and 1928; Iron Age (October 11, 1928); and Railway Journal (1930) on oil-electric engines. Additional material includes an early diesel locomotive article dated February 3, 1923, and a Boston & Maine Rail Car Supercharged Diesel Engine pamphlet (1935). Visual components feature five photographs of locomotive parts, plants, and engines; five photographs of a 1926 oil-electric locomotive; and photographs of the American Locomotive Co. with order forms dated April 1926, April 1928, September 1927 (2), and December 1928.
